It protects the battery from being over-charged by the solar modules and over-discharged by the loads.

The automatic limit for maximum PV input power. Should the PV input exceed the rating, the controller will simply limit the throughput to the rated level.

Warm tips:

Step: Connect the system in the order of 1. battery-->2. load-->3.PV array, and disconnect the system in the reverse order 3. 2. 1.

  • The battery must be connected first !!!
  • Never connect the solar panel array to the controller Without/Before a Battery.
  • DO NOT connect any inverter/ wind/Alternator or Charger into the charge controller!
  • If the remote temperature sensor is not connected to the controller, the default setting for battery charging or discharging temperature is 25 °C without temperature compensation.
  • The wire size is only for reference. If there is a long distance between the PV array and the controller or between the controller and the battery, larger wires can be used to reduce the voltage drop and improve performance.

Answer: If you don't need expand your solar power system in future, you can make your battery to 24V. In this way, 40A controller is ok. For 40A controller, when your battery is 24V, max solar power up to 1040W, max voltage up to 96V; Wire your solar panel 2 in series & 2 in parallel, solar panel's total voltage is about 60V, total power is 980W. It is ok for 40A controller. NOTE: For EPEVER 40A controller, it only support 12V or 24V battery, you can't make it to 36V or 48V battery system.

Answer: NO. you only need to select battery type.

Answer: YES. But it need with 24V system, this 40A controller's Max. PV input power is 1040W(24V system), Max input voltage is 100V.

Answer: YES. For this 40A controller IF your system is 12V, The max power of your panel is 520W; IF your system is 24V, The max power of your panel is 1040W;

Answer: YES. It support lithium battery. For lithium battery, currently stilll need set the para via PC software or Phone APP.

Answer: Charging current can't be set, but you can set charging voltage.

This is a great solar charge controller for systems in treeless conditions to semi-heavy shaded areas. The fact that it can detect the voltage of the connected battery bank automatically makes it almost Plug and Play. I installed it on a 2 battery bank (12 v AGM) in semi to heavy shading when the batteries were down to about 65%. In 24 hours the charger meter showed 13.8 v in float. The only draw back to this kit is the RS485 cable for the remote meter is only about 3-4 feet long. The location where we would be monitoring the system is between 25 to 30 feet away.

I had solar on a previous camper that has been sold. I thought that since this was the same company creating a "newer" product I thought this one would be better. It's not. The input terminals are much smaller than the one on my previous solar charger which limits the size of the cable I am able to use here. The screws used to tighten the input wires is also whimpier and is stripping easily. I'm going out today to try to find replacement screws because of at least 1 screw is terribly stripped. I am having trouble keeping a TIGHT connection. One of the cables to the negative battery side slipped out! This is all during testing of my system. If this had happened while on the road (this is in a camper van application) this would be really really bad. I regret this purchase. I wish I had again bought the beefier sturdier "EPEVER 40 Amp MPPT Solar Charge Controller 150V PV Input Negative Ground" and if I have to replace this unit that will be the one I upgrade to. Yes it is able to charge up my 200 Ah AGM battery, but I am not feeling as confident in these connections. The connections MATTER!!

Installed this in our fifth wheel RV, connected to a total of 400w of panels, and charging 2ea 6 volt golf cart batteries. I particularly like the remote monitor that comes with it, which I mounted inside the RV next to the control station for lights and slides. I never need to open the compartment and look at the charge controller, because the remote gives me more info anyway. This is doing a top notch job of keeping our batteries charged, even though they are getting a little old. I think this is going to squeeze a little more life out of them. I'm setup with the panels providing about 40 volts to the charge controller, and I've seen at most 18 amp hours hitting the batteries.

I’ve had this controller installed for a few weeks now and so far I am pleased with it. If I have any issues I will definitely update this review. I have AGM batteries and this controller does not have a specific setting for them. I chose to use the User battery setting and set the equalization time to zero so it did not equalize the battery. I recommend you get the package deal with the temp sensor and mt50 remote screen. It is much easier dealing with settings and seeing the information on this remote screen. Using the PC software was tricky but I eventually got it to work by reading the instructions provided with the software bundle I downloaded. The PC software is not necessary though unless you have lithium batteries. You will need it to setup the controller then.

I would give this controller a 5 star review but can't thanks to the software that you have to download if you want to use it.The controller itself seem pretty decent. I've only been up and running with these for a few days. I'm upgrading from PWM to MPPT. I have these set up in parallel to each other. The panels are set up in series for 24 volt and the batteries are 12 volt. There's 2 panels in series (x2) to two controllers (530 watts to each controller) and 4 panels, (2 in series, 2 in series) in parallel (920 watts per controller) to the controller. The controllers don't seem to be even getting warm with this setup. The 2 controllers with 2 panels receive different amounts of sunlight at different times of the day and are far apart. It's not practical or wise to connect them to the same controller so I used 2 controllers. The battery bank consists of 10, 6 volt Trojan L16E wired for 12 volts. I'm currently charging at this moment at about 70 amps. Yesterday the charge current dropped slowly until it was just above the amperage being used by the house. I believe that's the way it's supposed to work and I was happy with that. I will be adding 8 more panels at 300 watts each and will be buying the higher amperage version of this controller for those.Now the blah stuff.. They could have given you more options on the cellular apps. There is a limited amount of stuff you can do with the apps, but there could be more. I wouldn't complain at all about the download software if the app was more versatile. On the remote controller there is still just a limited amount of stuff you can do. The manual says you can change the battery AH with the remote box but I couldn't do it and you cant with the app either.Now the bad. The software. I downloaded all three software's that are shown, spp v1, spp v2 and the pc tools. None of them would connect. In the installation instructions there is a walk through of setting up the software. I followed it to a 'T' and no go. I tried for an hour. Suddenly, for no reason, it connected. I sat up the first controller. and everything was good. I sat the software up for the second controller, and it wouldn't connect. I sat up the unit ID and everything per the instructions. I tried different cables and different laptops, no joy. Finally, for no apparent reason, it connected. I sat up the second controller. The third controller went the same way, wouldn't connect then for no reason it connects. The 4th controller was the same, then for no reason it connected. At that point, I was able to go from controller to controller and check stuff and tweak stuff... There's a lot you can do with the software WHEN IT WORKS. Soooooo…. This morning I get up and hook up the laptop and can't connect to anything. Tried for an hour and gave up. I'm a former IT guy with a national cable company. and I'll have to say, they need to start over on the software.So, conclusion, if you want a good controller this one, for the price, isn't bad. If you're buying it to se with software, look else ware. I hate to give bad reviews, If I figure out the software I'll amend this one. With todays technology it would seem wise to have a system that would allow the controllers to talk to each other to share settings and status. That would be a great system. Enough for now.As promised I'm editing the review. I'll raise the stars by one....I purchased a 60 amp version of this controller to finish off my install.. I also purchased a Windows 7 based laptop off E-Bay. The EPSolar software works perfectly on the windows 7 based laptop. I could not get a consistent connection with Windows 10 unless I deleted all the previous controllers from the software and start over. Even then it was iffy at best. I've repeatedly connected and disconnected with the windows 7 laptop with no issues. I would like to see the future versions of the Android and IOS app give more options and allow more editing of the controller setup.Overall, I like the controllers. I'm running 4x 40 amp and one 60 amp on a 4.7KW system with no issues. My batteries are completely charged before noon and a cloudless day and then the controllers slack off and just give the power needed to run stuff. Pretty nice really....
